バトル・オブ・シリコンバレー
『バトル・オブ・シリコンバレー』という映画をiTunesのレンタルで見た。
この映画は、スティーブ・ジョブズとビル・ゲイツのライバル関係などを描いたもので、時代としては1970年頃からジョブズがアップルに復帰したくらいまで、つまり1990年代後半までを映画化している。
映画と書いたが、実際はドキュメンタリータッチのテレビ映画なの（日本でいえば単発の2時間ドラマのようなもの）、1時間30分強の作品だ。
ジョブズがアップル本社で社員に語って聞かせる、ピカソの言葉「優れた芸術家は模倣でなく、盗む」（だったかな）も記憶に残ったが、それ以上に、すべてを賭けてめざすものがあることを正直、羨ましいとも思った。パソコンを通じて革命を起こそうとしているその情熱に心を動かされた。
僕はこう見えても（って、僕を知らない人間にはこんなこと言われてもよくわからないだろうけど）影響を受けやすい。誰の影響でも受けるわけではないけれど、少しでも心酔すると影響されやすい。というか、影響されたくてこの映画を見たという部分もある。
この映画を見て、僕が強く感じたこと。それは、こういうことだ。いちばん自分がやりたいこと、自分にとって大切なこと以外は、とるに足らないことかもしれない。
という言い方は極端かもしれないけれど、そのくらいの割り切りというか、針の振れ方がないと、革命的な大きなことはできないだろうということ。いや、これは確信に近い。
こんなことを書いていることじたい恥ずかしい思いもあるし、ふだんの仕事も家族も大事だという気持ちもこれまでと変わらない。でも、いちばんやりたいことについて、もっと考え、できるだけ時間も労力もエネルギーも注ぎ込もうと、『バトル・オブ・シリコンバレー』を見ながら思った。
「やりたいこと」「やるべきこと」「やらなくてはいけないこと」「やったほうがいいこと」「やらないほうがいいこと」
年も明け、歳をひとつとったことだし、さまざまなことを一度整理してみようという気になった。
見る人によって印象も感想も違うだろうけど、まだ燃え尽きていない人や、また何かに燃えたい人にはおすすめの作品だと思う。レンタル料は300円。最後に、この作品が作られたのはジョブズが亡くなってすぐとかそういうタイミングでなく、1999年だか2001年だか、そのあたりのようなのでそのことを付け加えておく。
